Show Dad Some Love

Hey hey hey it’s Daddy’s Day! Well, not this week, but it’s speeding towards us just like summer vacation, beach weather, and strawberry season! I’m obviously going to get my Dad a bunch of cheeses for Father’s Day because why mess with success? So I pulled together some of my Dad’s faves and created the Dad Collection - a gift box of goodies for Father’s Day fun.  I have a feeling that the dads and father-figures in your life will think these cheeses are quite awesome, too.

Kaltbach Le Cremeux

Dad LOVES sandwiches, especially anything with gooey cheese involved. So, I wanted - no, NEEDED - to include a cheese that melts all stringy and perfect for his next tuna melt, grilled cheese, or breakfast sandwich. Kaltbach is a semi-firm cow’s milk cheese from Switzerland that tastes like a jammy egg yolk, sour cream, and walnuts. Are we drooling? Yes, we are.

Wilde Weide

Wilde Weide is Dad’s favorite gouda in our case because it is fruity and sharp with an enticing crunch from lots of crispy crystallization. When we have Bolognese at our house, we grate Wilde Weide over the sauce instead of Parmigiano Reggiano because the bright, strong flavor pairs well with the rich meat and tomato. He’s quite proud of this culinary innovation, and if you’ve been to the shop, I’m sure he’s told you allll about this combo. When we’re not enjoying Wilde Weide over Bolognese, we like to chunk it up for snacking alongside a glass of Bordeaux - (hint, check out our Drinks for Dad Collection for the perfect Father’s Day bevvies.)

Manchego

Currently, Manchego is my number one favorite omelet cheese, and my mom is my number one favorite omelet maker. I’m hoping that if I give my dad a chunk of this brown buttery, nutty, sheep’s milk cheese, my mom might make Dad and I some omelets for Father’s Day. Diabolical, eh?

Fourme d’Ambert

Creamy, French, easy to love, Fourme d’Ambert is a good blue cheese for blue cheese lovers like my dad, and also for blue cheese skeptics. Both will enjoy the slight spiciness balanced by flavors of cream and butter, and the bouncy texture, right in between soft and firm. And for a little soupçon of history for ya pops, Fourme d’Ambert has been made for over 1,000 years!

To really solidify my place as the best child in this family (I’m looking at you, brother mine), I’m going to add extras to this cheese package – a stick of Vermont Salumi salami, I haven’t decided on the flavor yet because I love them all, and a jar of grainy Edmond Fallot Mustard. Yup, it’s gonna be a tasty Father’s Day!

For the love of cheese and dads of every kind,

Kiri

P.S. There are some awesome TV dads out there, and three of my favorites are Rogelio De La Vega from Jane the Virgin, Kenya Barris from #blackAF, and Johnny Rose from Schitt’s Creek. I’m due for a (fourth, fifth, twelfth) rewatch! And since these are all excellent shows to watch with a dad, maybe with these cheeses I can entice mine to join me…
