Oktoberfest Beer Tasting!

You might have heard legend of Bavaria's annual Oktoberfest celebration, or at least seen an "Oktoberfest" beer and wondered what it was all about. (No, the "k" in Oktober is not a mistake!) Though the real Oktoberfest has passed (it actually happens in early to mid September in Munich) here in the States we tend to equate it with the month of October. So this week we're gonna get real seasonal on y'all.

Revolution Brewing Oktoberfest - Brewed with 100% German malts and Hallertau Gold hops(grown on only one farm in Bavaria!) this Chicago based brewery offers up a surprisingly authentic experience with this German-style lager.

Berkshire Brewing Oktoberfest - Rated as one of the top 10 Oktoberfest beers in all the land by Beer Advocate, this gem is made RIGHT HERE in Massachusetts! This traditional Märzen style beer is a toasty, malty, caramel-y, golden-glass of wonderment.

Aecht Schelenkerla Rauchbier (smokebeer) - Yes, a smoked beer. Straight from the motherland of Oktoberfest tradition in Bamberg, Germany. Like so much other wonderfully traditional European fare, this smokebeer has been brewed for centuries. The barley malts are kilned over beech wood in copper vessels to produce a truly unique drinking experience.

And who knows, 'tis the season for pumpkin beers andmaple and toasty lovely things, I'm thinking the mood may strike to open up a wild card. Prost!
